“Winter is coming!” This is an extremely well-known dialogue from the popular TV-series Game of Thrones that has thousands of fans, maybe even more all around the world. The fans were extremely excited for season 8 of the show and it is a relief that it came out before the pandemic hit us or season 8 would have delayed until this situation was over.

Game of Thrones is about a battle for the thrones as the name suggests and is set in medieval times. The show begins with the characters pleased that years-long summer ends and winter approaches meanwhile they fight against each other to claim the “Iron Throne”.

This show used to be fans’ Sunday night entertainment where they watched the characters do a marvelous job at portraying their roles so we can imagine the disappointment when the creators announced that season 8 will be the last season of this series.

Will there Ever be a Game of Thrones Season 9?

The lovers of the show have been hopeful that the team of the show might come back with another season or more however there is almost no possibility of that happening as the creators have officially announced that the show will end upon the release of the 8th season.

As the show is based on George R. R. Martin’s series called A Song of Ice and Fire fans should not worry about not being able to see more content. A prequel of Game of Thrones called House of Dragon is in the making and is expected to release in 2022, would have premiered earlier had there not been a threat of Coronavirus looming over everyone’s head.

John Bradly who plays the role of Samwell Tarly, the character loved by the fans, while speaking about how he felt when he found out that the show was ending. He accepted that this was heartbreaking news for him as he wanted to do more work on the show.

However, he did agree with other cast members regarding ending the show soon after season 7 because they believed it would drag and lose its uniqueness and fantastic storyline.

His exact words were, “Going into season seven, some of us were thinking, ‘This has been great, but it’d be nice to wrap it up before it’s outstayed its welcome’ – because some shows go on and on and the quality control goes down”.

Good News for the Fans

Although fans are devastated to know that the show is ending however there is some good news. As mentioned above, a prequel to Game of Thrones with the name House of Dragon is set to release in 2022. Fans are eagerly waiting for its episodes to be able to see the Game of Thrones type of content.

Also, the writer of the books that these series are based on has written many books which means that fans do not have to worry about a lack of content to watch in the future for some time.

If you are eager to know more about the content that is in the books and will hopefully be turned into shows in the upcoming years, you can order the books from Amazon and enjoy reading them until the exact date of the prequel is announced and you can mark your calendars. This way you will have prior knowledge about how the upcoming episodes will go about and what you can expect.

The prequel show is the evidence that HBO is still living in the world of Game of Thrones.

There Will be No Season 9 of Game of Thrones!

In an interview with Deadline, showrunner David Benioff said that why he and fellow showrunner Dan Weiss decided that the season 8 should be the last season of the show.

“The thing that has excited us from the beginning, back to the way we pitched to HBO is, it’s not supposed to be an ongoing show, where every season it’s trying to figure out new storylines. ”He added“. We wanted it to be one giant story, without padding it out to add an extra 10 hours, or because people are still watching it. “

He also said “ We wanted something where, if people watched it end to end, it would make sense as one continuous story. ”

HBO chief programming head Michael Lombardo said that the channel wanted the show to stretch for at least two more seasons. But the showrunners Benioff and Weiss wanted to end the show at eighth season and don’t wanted to add two more seasons in the series.

When they were shooting the sixth season Lombardo said “Obviously we’re shooting Season 6 now, hopefully discussing seven. I think their feeling is we’re looking at two more seasons after six. I’m hoping they’ll change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now”.

What to Watch in the Meantime?

There are people who are either not into reading or would not want to read the books to stay clear of any spoilers that will ruin the show for them. You do not have to worry because here is a list of shows you can binge-watch while the creators bring the spin-off to your screens!

The 100 is a famous sci-fi show with 7 seasons with plenty of episodes meaning there is a lot of content to watch. The show is about 100 teenagers who are sent down to earth about 100 years after an apocalypse made it inhabitable.
